An Inca heart at the foot of Cotopaxi
There are few places one can visit in Ecuador as impressive. From its archeological relevance to the stylish way each element has been designed —with fireplaces that heat the bathrooms and artistically-painted walls and artworks to distinguish every space— San Agustín de Callo is a site to behold. Llamas bring life to the stone-clad courtyard as they maraud for carrots at feeding time while the flower-filled gardens come to life when Mount Cotopaxi emerges from cloud into the clear blue sky. But it is, without a doubt, its Inca stonework that make this Andean hacienda truly unique. Add fine cuisine, a secluded country setting, nearby páramo walks, garden tours, mountain biking and horseback riding to the mix and you have a treasure to cherish for a lifetime.
