Guayaquil is the entire Southern Coast’s urban hub: a world that bears absolutely no resemblance to the Andes. Both tropical and humid, the city is best known for its street flare and animated people, its passionate football/soccer, its afternoon breezes that come in from the magnanimous Guayas River, where boardwalks offer a refreshing stroll. From here, you can begin your journeys west and north, towards the region’s many beaches, mangroves and tropical forests; or south to Machala and the southwestern border with Perú.
